On April 23, a delegation from Southeast University visited Jiangsu Port Group Co., Ltd. for research and exchange. The delegation was led by Liu Pan, Executive Deputy Secretary of the CPC Southeast University Committee. Liu Zhiyuan, Secretary of the Directly Affiliated Party Branch of the School of Statistics and Data Science, and Ma Tao, Dean of the School of Transportation, joined the visit.
During the visit, Liu Pan was invited to deliver a lecture at the fifth session of the “Jiangsu Port Lecture Hall”. The lecture was also part of an expanded study session of the Theoretical Study Center Group of the Party Committee of Jiangsu Port Group. Liu reviewed the development of artificial intelligence. He introduced its practical applications in transportation systems and analyzed its future prospects in the port sector. Chen Ming, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Jiangsu Port Group, chaired the session and delivered remarks.
After the lecture, participating faculty members held a symposium with Jiangsu Port Group. The two sides exchanged views on industry-university-research-application cooperation, joint talent training, student employment, and internship opportunities.
The symposium was attended by representatives from both Jiangsu Port Group and Southeast University. Participants from Jiangsu Port Group included Xu Hongbo (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee), Jie Xiao (General Manager of the Organization Department of the Party Committee), Wan Wenzhi (General Manager of the Science and Technology Engineering Department), Liu Haiyan (Executive Director of the Information Technology Company), Zhang Hongxia (First-Rank Specialist of the Party-Mass Work Department), Xu Dan (Deputy General Manager of the Organization Department of the Party Committee), Shi Qingsong (Deputy General Manager of the Strategic Development Department), and Han Yanping (Deputy Director of the Party-Mass Work Department). Participants from Southeast University included Liu Zhiyuan (Secretary of the Directly Affiliated Party Branch of the School of Statistics and Data Science), Ma Tao (Dean of the School of Transportation), and other heads of relevant departments and units from both sides.
At the symposium, Xu Hongbo welcomed the Southeast University delegation. He introduced the Group’s business scope, organizational structure, business sectors, and strategic direction. He noted that Southeast University has a strong academic foundation and distinctive disciplinary strengths. These strengths are highly aligned with the Group’s industrial development. He said that the two sides have broad prospects for cooperation. He also expressed the hope to deepen cooperation in collaborative innovation, platform building, and talent training.
Liu Zhiyuan introduced the School of Statistics and Data Science. He presented its organizational structure, faculty team, and student training. He said that statistics and data science play an important role in large model optimization and AI-enabled complex decision-making. He noted that the School’s research areas are highly aligned with the business layout of Jiangsu Port Group. This provides a strong foundation for future cooperation. He hoped that this exchange would serve as an opportunity to strengthen university-enterprise collaboration, promote coordinated innovation, and jointly train interdisciplinary and innovative talent. He also said that such cooperation would better serve the construction of China’s strength in transportation and the development of the industry.
Ma Tao thanked Jiangsu Port Group for its long-standing support. He introduced the development of the School of Transportation in disciplinary reform, smart transportation system construction, and talent training. He said that the two sides have strong alignment and cooperation potential in marine engineering. He expressed the hope to strengthen all-round cooperation and accelerate the development of an integrated system of industry, education, research, and application.
The two sides also held in-depth discussions on several practical areas. These included big data analysis, high-quality dataset development, smart port construction, and internship and practice base development. They reached a consensus on future cooperation in these areas. The exchange laid a solid foundation for deeper and more practical collaboration.
Going forward, the School of Statistics and Data Science will continue to promote enterprise visits, employment-oriented outreach, and university-enterprise collaboration. It will further expand cooperation areas and improve the level of cooperation. The School will use data science and statistical technologies to support smart port construction. It will also contribute SEU’s strengths in statistics to the construction of China’s strength in transportation.
